Technical Data for Spyraflo Bearings

Bronze
Bronze Technical

Assembled to SAE 840 specification, containing 25% oil and utilizing high specification sintered bronze material, these bearings offer an economic solution for applications requiring zero maintenance, relatively high speed and medium loads.

The spherical bearing insert acts as the oil reservoir. Rotation of the shaft under load creates a Hydrodynamic action where oil is drawn to the surface, creating a film of lubricant between the bearing and shaft. It is essential for the application to be successful; minimum loads and speeds are exceeded in order to create the Hydrodynamic action. Bronze bearings are ideal for paper handling applications where the bearing allows static electricity to dissipate from the shaft through the bearing to the machine frame. Bronze is not recommended where a low coefficient of friction is required.

Delrin TechnicalDelrin®

Delrin® 500CL is a chemically lubricated acetyl polymer material where the coefficient of static friction is the same or less than the coefficient of its dynamic friction. It has high strength and rigidity over a broad temperature range.

The bearing inserts are injection molded to a high degree of consistency ensuring they meet the demands of a diverse range of applications. A particularly useful feature for appropriate applications is the ability to withstand repeated impact without distortion.

Spyraflo offer the Delrin®500AF bearing option, which contains 20% Teflon PTFE fiber within the acetyl material. This increases shaft lubrication significantly, giving outstanding low wear characteristics.

Spyraflo Delrin bearings are ideal for applications requiring a low coefficient of friction, rotary, oscillatory and/or linear motion. When combined with a stainless steel retainer, the FDA considers the materials suitable for food processing and packaging.

Teflon-Bronze TechnicalTeflon-Bronze

Maintenance-free Teflon-Bronze bearings used in the Spyraflo product are an extremely high performance plain bearing. A 0.005" (0.2mm) porous layer of bronze particles is sintered onto a steel backing plate. A solid polytetreflouroethylene (PTFE) lubricant is introduced into the bronze structure a film of Teflon lubricant is transferred to the shaft when shaft motion commences. Continued shaft rotation facilitates the continued presence of lubricant between the bearing and shaft.

The bearing is chemically resistant to water, alcohol, glycols and mineral oils and is suitable for applications where one or more of the following are present: shock load, high load, medium speed or dirty/dusty environments.

Needle Roller TechnicalNeedle-Roller

Drawn-Cup Needle-Roller Bearings combine a narrow cross-section with the high performance of a rolling element bearing.

The hardened shaft acts as the inner bearing raceway with the needles generally being retained in a cage. The bearings are supplied pre-lubricated with a lithium-complex grease for optimum performance in normal operating conditions. High temperature grease, sealed and full compliment options are available.
